5 world whiskey cocktails you need to try

Just as countries all over the world are known for their unique food and culture, they’re also known for their libations. Go beyond toddies and highballs and get to know other whiskeys from all around the globe. These delicious drinks will introduce you to a whole world of whiskey from places like Ireland, Canada, Japan and more. Here are 5 world whiskey cocktails you need to try right now.

Frisky Whiskey

Feeling a little frisky? The Frisky Whiskey is the perfect world whiskey cocktail to spice things up. Honey liqueur helps to tame the Irish whiskey while the orange juice and simple syrup add sweetness.

Ingredients:

  • 1 oz. Irish whiskey
  • 1 oz. honey liqueur
  • 1 oz. fresh orange juice
  • ¼ oz. simple syrup
  • 2 dashes Angostura bitters

Directions: Add all ingredients to a shaker with ice and shake vigorously. Strain into a highball glass over ice.

White Summer Sazerac

When you think of a Sazerac, does moonshine come to mind? We didn’t think so! This light and spirit-forward concoction combines many different ingredients from around the world that add an exotic flair to a summer standard.

Ingredients:

  • 1 oz. of your favorite moonshine (white corn whiskey)
  • ½ oz. rye whiskey
  • ½ oz. brandy
  • ¼ oz. Italicus aperitivo
  • ¼ oz. simple syrup
  • 6 dashes fennel bitters
  • 3 dashes celery bitters
  • 1 pinch celery salt
  • 6 spritzes absinthe

Directions: Add all the ingredients into a mixing glass with ice and stir. Strain into a chilled rocks glass. Garnish with an edible flower.

Green Tea Highball

If you’ve never tried Japanese whisky, you’ll love this light and refreshing sipper. When mixed with chilled green tea and soda water, it combines two of Japan’s most famous beverages.

Ingredients:

  • 2 oz. Japanese whisky
  • 2 oz. brewed green tea, cooled
  • Soda water

Directions: Add the whisky and tea to a Collins glass with ice and stir. Top with soda water. Garnish with maple leaf candy.

Cry Baby

Turmeric in a cocktail? Don’t knock it until you try it! Turmeric has been showing up on cocktail menus lately for good reason: the spice adds an earthy note to recipes.

Ingredients:

  • 1 oz. Irish whiskey
  • ½ oz. bourbon
  • ½ calvados brandy
  • ¼ oz. Dom Benedictine liqueur
  • ½ oz. cane syrup
  • 1 dash turmeric bitters

Directions: Add all the ingredients into a mixing glass with ice and stir. Strain into a rocks glass with one large ice cube. Garnish with a lemon twist.

Washington Apple

For this world whiskey cocktail, we head north of the border to Canada. The Washington Apple is easy to make and even easier to drink. This crisp sip features Canadian whisky and the tart flavors of apple and cranberry can enliven any occasion.

Ingredients:

  • 1 oz. Canadian whisky
  • 1 oz. sour apple schnapps
  • 1 oz. cranberry juice

Directions: Add all ingredients into a shaker with ice and shake until well-chilled. Strain into a coupe glass. Garnish with an apple slice.
